HVO: Episode 42 of lava fountaining in Halemaʻumaʻu at the summit of Kīlauea began at 1:50 p.m. HST on February 15, 2026 following the onset of continuous overflows at 1:08 pm HST.
The south vent fountain jetted up to over 1300 feet (400 meters) while the north vent reached about 800 feet (250 meters) at their highest. Maximum effusion rate reached about 1000 cubic yards per second (770 cubic meters per second) during highest fountains around 2 pm HST.
Episode 42 ended at 11:38 pm HST. The south vent faltered and then jetted just after 11:34 p.m. Narrow jets erupted from the south vent in the last 2 minutes. The north vent dropped slowly at this time and also jetted in the last minute.
HVO: Episode 41 of lava fountaining in Halemaʻumaʻu began at the summit of Kīlauea at 11:10 a.m. HST on January 24. Tephra fall has been reported in public viewing areas within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Volcano Village, Mauna Loa Estates, and Ohia Estates. As of 12:10 p.m., both north and south vent fountains were over 500 m (1640 feet) tall.

Episode 40 sustained lava fountaining at the summit of Kīlauea began at 822 a.m. HST on January 12, 2026. This VOD is from 1507 to 1822. 1128 to 1507 part of the VOD.
This fountaining was preceded by several days of significant precursory activity that included cyclic spatter and dome fountains from both the north and south vents that fed large lava flows on the crater floor including a flow from the south vent that reached 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) in length.
Sustained lava fountains erupting from the north vent are currently reaching heights of more than 200 meters (660 feet) and feeding a lava flow on the crater floor. Intermittent spatter continues from the south vent.
The main video feeds have no audio; we were feeding audio into the combined output of this stream (Yolobox to streaming ingests).
HVO update: Episode 40 ended at 604 pm HST after 9.7 hours of eruption from the north vent. The south vent was not active during the high fountain phase. Lava flows covered about one half to two thirds of the Halemaʻumaʻu crater floor.

The hotel is located on the Hilo bay front where a section of that inlet also narrows (further funneling effect) and allows such tidal fluctuations from tsunami to easily flood onto the property. Their security camera captures the rapid inundation of the drop off area (which also entered the lobby area and flooded around 10 rooms on the lower floor).
